Hopethiopia is very actively engaged in bringing back a much healthier environment through our reforestation programs. At one point in history the lands had a very healthy environment with over 50% of the land coverd by forests. Our area of Harbu Chulule would have been a semi jungle with hundreds of species of birds and animals such as cheetah's and leopards roaming the land. However, over time with massive deforestation the situation became very serious dropping down to less than 3% of forest coverage.
Now at Hopethiopia we have been planting miilions of trees and the lands are rebounding. Soils quality is improving, hillsides are being stabilized and soil esosion is decreasing, natural springs of water are appearing on the once barren hillsides, and many species of birds, insects, and plants are returning.
Hopethiopia takes part in the newly developed “Green Legacy” program which is a principle that we have taken very seriously for the last 14 years. The biodiversity of the nation is now rapidly improving
