Ethiopia

Hopethiopia has 2 primary project countries in East Africa at the present time. Our projects were first started in Ethiopia when the co-founders travelled there in 2008, hence the name Hopethiopia. However, soon after that Glenda found herself in Rwanda and then our projects took off there quickly.

In Ethiopia, our primary project location is found in Harbu Chulule, a small community located about 100km south west of Addis Ababa. This area is called the highlands were temperatures are moderate at an altitude of 2400m or about 8,000 feet above sea level. Hopethiopia also has a partner project site in the town of Wolisso.

Travel directions: To get to the Hopethiopia project site, travel SW on the road from Addis Ababa, past Alemgena and Sebeta and continue on the road towards Wolisso. When you get to Tulu Bolo (1 hour from Addis) turn south at the Total station and travel 25km on a road under construction to Harbu Chulule. You will see the Hopethiopia project site as you enter town on the left (east) side. Our volunteer centre will accommodate up to 40 people onsite. One can expect a travel time of about 3 hours from the airport to our project location.

Rwanda

In Rwanda the main project sites for Hopethiopia / Rwanda are located in the capital city of Kigali. The “Kelly Drader Longview” training centre is located in the city area in a beautiful urban location. It is where you will also find our Volunteer centre where mission teams currently stay. Our secondary site is located in Gahanga where one will find the men’s Hope home as well as the new land project site found in a much more rural type of environment.

One can expect a travel time of 20 to 30 minutes from the airport to our project locations.
